About This Blog

Me, in the early phases of writing this blog.
This blog explores topics related to creating a life that promotes well-being mentally, physically, spiritually and psychologically, mainly because as a licensed clinical psychologist, I am up to my elbows in those topics every day.  I am also a psychology nerd and believe that it is relevant in everyone's lives.  So many people put psychology into dry academics and research, or see it as psychobabble that is only relevant to people who have a lot of money and the desire to develop their inner child.  There are many misconceptions and often the information isn't accessible.  Psychology is about each person reaching their full capacity, becoming as truly and genuinely themselves as possible.  Psychology is about shedding unhealthy thoughts and behaviors, in order to live the life you have been given to the best of your ability.  It is about learning to play the hand that life has dealt you.  I hope some of the entries in this blog will take away the mystery of psychology and be helpful in someway, if only to know that others struggle, too. Even someone who is an "expert" in being emotionally healthy! This blog also includes stories about my family, animals and life in the Pacific Northwest.

I have adopted the Pacific Northwest as my home.  I own a small psychology practice where I see children, teens, adults and families.  I am most passionate about working with children and battered women.  It is very fulfilling to help the most vulnerable in society and see them become more healthy and strong. I am happily married to my sweet husband, Aaron. He is also a counselor, with a master's degree in Counseling Psychology but is currently making a career transition, most likely into technology.  We had our daughter in 2007. She's turned our world upside down but watching her grow and develop is an amazing experience! We enjoy spending time outside in any capacity, spending time with family, traveling and watching movies.  I love nature, all animals, interior design and I am addicted to growing plants.  I struggle with a form of bipolar disorder, so I am constantly striving to have a healthy balance in all areas of my life and lead the life I advocate to my clients.  It is helpful that I have a stubborn streak and a good sense of humor.  I also have a large of a "back to the earth" streak about me but luckily, we have home where I can garden to my heart's content and have a bit of wilderness to roam in.  We are looking forward to whatever life brings next.  Sunny days are ahead!

Mother Effing Chihuahuas

There are a couple of Mother Effing Chihuahuas that live down the street from me.   I need to pause here for a moment to clarify that I don...
